Both sea and ocean refer to large bodies of saltwater, but there are some differences between the two:
Size: Oceans are larger than seas. There are five oceans in the world- Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, and Arctic, while there are many seas such as the Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Caribbean Sea, etc.
Location: Oceans are vast, open bodies of water that cover about 70% of the Earth's surface. Seas, on the other hand, are smaller bodies of water that are partially enclosed by land.
Depth: Oceans are deeper than seas. The average depth of the ocean is around 12,080 feet (3,682 meters), while the average depth of the sea is around 200 meters.
Salinity: The salinity of seas is higher than that of oceans because they are more enclosed and have less water exchange with the open sea.
Biodiversity: Oceans have more biodiversity compared to seas. The vastness and depth of the oceans provide habitats for a greater number of species and ecosystems.
